Staff Spotlight: Pete Menzies, Senior Commercial Manager APAC

In our latest staff Q&A, we find out about Pete Menzies, Senior Commercial Manager APAC

Which athlete do you think demonstrated the strongest mindset under pressure?
Phil “the Power” Taylor

What moment of sporting resilience stood out & has stayed with you the most?
Greg Norman vs. Nick Faldo in the Masters Golf Play off and Jonny Wilkinson drop goal against the Wallabies in the 2003 Rugby World Cup Final.

Which team do you support, and how did that connection start?
Arsenal, Bath and the Wests Tigers. When I moved back to the UK from Canada age 9, my uncle took me to watch Bath, similarly when I moved to London and then over to Sydney, Arsenal and the Tigers were the first teams in the respective sporting code that I watched live. I’ve stuck with them all, through thick and thin.

What’s the first sporting event you remember watching and what impact did it have on you?
UEFA Cup Winners Cup 1995 – Arsenal vs. Sampdoria, Stefan Schwarz free kick. Cemented my allegiance with Arsenal, in that moment I was a fan for life.

What’s a sporting moment that gave you goosebumps?
Tiger Woods infamous chip in on the 16th hole at The Masters in 2005

How does your current role align with your passion for sport?
I’ve never been more connected to my favourite sports, not just from the depth of data available through Podium, but through the brands and connections we have across all facets of the game be it the sport, the players and stadiums through to the fans and end-users of the tech platforms that we power and partner with.

Is there a sporting comeback that inspired you personally?
2012 R19 Souths vs Roosters rugby league match. Souths were down 22-12 with 2 and half mins to go. Souths won the game 24-22.

If you could apply the leadership style of any coach to the workplace, who would it be and why?
As an Arsenal fan, Arsène Wenger’s leadership. He combined innovation, intelligence, and long-term thinking, always staying ahead of the curve, be it through data, player development, or nutrition. Wenger led with a calm, principled approach, empowering individuals while maintaining a clear vision for collective success. His emphasis on creativity, continuous improvement, and doing things “the right way” aligns well with building a forward-thinking, values-driven culture.

What sports team or era do you think best embodied great teamwork?
The 1997 British & Irish Lions tour to South Africa embodied great teamwork because it brought together players from four rival nations and forged them into a united, resilient squad that overcame the odds. They weren’t the favourites, but through shared purpose, mutual respect, and a strong team culture they found cohesion. Their 2–1 series win was built on collective grit, smart tactics, and total trust in each other, classic ingredients of great teamwork.

If you could attend any past sporting event, which would it be?
1966 World Cup final between England and West Germany. The Football World Cup is my favourite sporting tournament because it combines global unity, high-stakes drama, and unforgettable moments into one massive spectacle. Every four years, it brings together nations, cultures, and generations, showcasing not just elite talent but also underdog stories, emotional highs and lows, and the pure passion of the game.

Finishing on a work question, what sporting mindset or mantra do you try to bring into your workday?
A sporting mindset I bring into the workday is “control the controllables.” Like in sport, not everything goes your way, but focusing on effort, attitude, and preparation helps maintain consistency and resilience—even when the unexpected happens.
